Italian destinations
Any suggestions for somewhere in Italy please? We’re a couple in our late twenties who like to spend time on a good beach but we also like visiting interesting cultural places. At night we enjoy good restaurants and bars that are not touristy. Tammy Windsor

The ideal place is Forte Dei Marmi on the Tuscan Riviera. It’s not touristy. It has a gorgeous beach - long - long – long - backed by fabulous restaurants, a marble promenade and colourful hotels. You’ll find designer shops galore. It’s very Italian and you will only find it in the specialist Italian brochures. It’s a twenty-minute transfer from Pisa and close to Florence and the walled city of Lucca - all with a backdrop of the beautiful scenery and vineyards of Tuscany. What more do you need for a romantic holiday?

Monte Argentario on the Tuscany coast is a quiet, upmarket Italian resort and close enough to drive or take the train to Florence or Rome and some of the smaller Tuscan towns. However you’ll find that the Italian bar scene is not quite as lively as in the UK or Spain. Rimini has lively clubs and bars but it’s touristy with little ‘culture’.

I suggest Ischia. It is a beautiful island. Many of the hotels have Spas and there are plenty of local restaurants serving pasta and fresh fish. You can take the hydrofoil to the mainland and Pompeii and Vesuvius.
