Simon Calder's report on Mexico - Need To Know
Verzonden op 02.07.07
Cancun airport, the main gateway to Mexico’s Caribbean coast, suffered particularly badly during Hurricane Wilma’s onslaught, and repair work is taking time; meanwhile, it can be very crowded. The other main arrival option is Cozumel, though reaching this airport usually involves a transit stop in the US. Mexico’s Pacific coast is at the limits of the range of charter aircraft, and therefore a ‘technical stop’ for refuelling may be made – often at Sanford airport, north of Orlando. On the Caribbean coast, the hurricane season lasts from as early as June to as late as November.

As with every country that experiences some poverty, Mexico suffers from a certain amount of street crime. The Foreign Office warns of the risk of theft – and occasionally armed robbery – but these dangers mostly affect the big cities rather than the holiday resorts.
