Andrew Eames's Morocco Report - Tips
Verzonden op 07.01.07
  • When you are besieged with local street-sellers trying to sell you their wares, pick one and ask him to show you around, in return for which you will buy some things from him. You will then become ‘his’ and all the others will leave you alone. In my experience, he will help you with bargaining tips, make sure you get the best camera angles, explain where things come from, and how to tell if ‘silver’ is real. I found it worked equally well in Marrakech and Tangier. Barbara O’Neil, Travel Counsellor

  • If you’re going to use local taxis, check with your hotel for the going rate. Taxi-drivers in Marrakech are generally pretty good about using their meters, but elsewhere you need to fix a price first. Andrew Eames, travel writer

  • Euros are widely accepted, but pounds sterling are not. Cathie O’Dea, Travel Counsellor

  • Several Marrakech hotels offer daylong cookery courses for guests and outsiders. But don’t eat with your left hand; locals consider it unclean. Andrew Eames, travel writer

  • If you’re staying in Agadir, Taroudant is much more do-able than Marrakech. It’s an hour and a half past the Atlas mountains so it’s an interesting drive as well. Cathie O’Dea, Travel Counsellor

  • Remember suncream even up in the cooler air of the Atlas mountains; at this height the sunlight is exceptionally strong. Andrew Eames, travel writer
